Filmora pro video editor advanced editing effects and motion graphics made easy the series of tutorials are going to show you the basics of editing and filmora pro from start to finish hi everyone my name is Johnny and in this tutorial we will get familiar with some editing basics this will let us arrange the footage to tell the story as we want we'll learn.

How to move split delete and trim clips once we've created a new project and imported our media the next step is to start editing this is where the fun begins the editor panel is the place where we'll arrange all of our clips to make the final composition we can see the timecode at the top left corner below the timecode we can see a list of tracks that we can use for video on the upper part and for audio on the lower part these are layers of clips that we can overlay in different ways the vertical white line that.

We can see on the timeline is the playhead and its position will always match the timecode to navigate in the editor panel we will have two vertical scroll bars one for the video and the other for the audio tracks one big horizontal scroll bar to scroll through our timeline and a horizontal zoom slider we can click and drag Clips straight from the media panel to the editor panel this will import the full-length clip to the timeline but we rarely use the full-length clip so the next thing we can do is trim the clip to use only the part we need one way.

We can do this is to play our clip on the timeline until the moment we want the clip to start if we lay the mouse over the start of the clip it will turn into this green bracket now we can click and drag from the start of the clip to the playhead or another place we want to trim the clip to if we do the same for the end of the clip we'll have our clip trimmed you'll notice that when we're trimming the mouse tends to stick to the playhead or to the start or ends of other clips showing this red line.

This is a feature called snapping which helps our cut to match precisely to other clips or the playhead if you don't want this to happen you can unselect the snapping option here on the top or use the shortcut shift s another way to trim our Clips is to select the clip on the media panel to preview it in the trimmer then set the in and out points as we've seen in the previous tutorial and click and drag from the trimmer monitor to the timeline this will import only the selected part of the clip to the place we want to drag it to on the timeline if we want to use the audio waveform as a reference to set the in and out points of a clip we can switch between use video and use audio options for this monitor we can also use this icon to import only the audio or only the video by clicking and dragging from the icon to the timeline.

We can click and drag these Clips inside the timeline to arrange how they'll be played in our final composition if we have more than one clip in the same time in different tracks we'll only see the one in the upper track except if we change the opacity or blend mode or if it doesn't cover the entire frame if we drag a clip over another on the same track it will erase that part of the clip to delete the clip from our timeline we can select it and hit delete we can split a clip by placing the playhead where we want to split and right click on the clip and then click on slice or.

We can just select the clip and press the shortcut ctrl or command b we can also split our clip by selecting the slice tool or by pressing the C key and clicking on the part of the clip that we want to cut in our timeline although don't forget to change back to the selection tool by clicking this icon or pressing the V key later we can work the same way with our audio clips trimming moving splitting and deleting if the video clip has audio attached to it the audio and video tracks will be linked so if we modify one the other one will be affected as well we can right click on the clip and click on unlink to separate them so that the work is independent clips using these techniques you can start importing your own videos and making your first edit in filmora Pro.
